At Algonquin Aussies, our breeding dogs are valued members of our family. They live in our home where we strive to give them the best life possible. We like to limit the number of dogs we have living in our home in order to maintain their high quality of life (and keep our sanity!). In order for us to produce the best possible puppies and expand our breeding program, we are offering a Guardianship Program that allows qualified families to receive a FREE puppy/dog while we retain the breeding rights.
This also allows families to experience the breeding process without needing the expertise, equipment, or commitment required to do so. Guardian families will receive our ‘pick of the litter’ to join their home at no cost and will be responsible for their new puppy physically and financially. We cover all costs associated to breeding (health testing, coat and colour testing, progesterone testing, ultrasounds, etc.) and will care for/own all litters produced by any guardian family dog. You will be responsible for covering the usual expenses that come with dog ownership like feeding, grooming, routine vet care, etc., just as you would any canine family member. Once the dog is retired (approx. age 5-7 or 5 litters), full ownership will be given to the guardian home at that time and and he/she will be spayed/neutered at the breeder’s expense.

To put it simply, guardian dogs will remain your beloved family pet but will come visit us every so often to sire/whelp their litters.
To qualify for our Guardianship program, you must reside within a one hour drive from Huntsville, Ontario.
Owning a FEMALE guardian dog:
You will take home puppy at 8 weeks. Once the puppy is of age to breed and she has passed all of her tests and clearances, she will return to us for a few days when she is in heat to be bred. After she has been bred, she will return to her guardian family to care for her during her pregnancy. She will then come back to us a week before she is due to whelp her litter and will remain in our care for 6-8 weeks to raise and wean her litter, during which time guardian families are permitted and encouraged to visit. Guardians must be able to detect and notify us of a heat cycle and keep females away from intact dogs during this time
Owning a MALE guardian dog:
You will take home puppy at 8 weeks. Once the puppy is of sexual maturity and he has passed all of his tests and clearances, he will return to us for a few days at a time when needed during breeding. Males will typically sire 2-3 litters per year. Gaurdians must be able to keep male dogs away from intact female dogs in heat.
